Hello Again! by WerewolfUlrich Hello Again! by WerewolfUlrich
He just can't seem to get away from those parasites now can he?

This particular drawing took about three days if I remember correctly.

I submitted a category proposal on iScribble but it was accepted and then deleted an hour later. I guess someone thought it was too gory. (whimp)

Drawn with my mouse.

Ah wow! I really love this piece~
Llama Emoji-03 (Sparkles) [V1]
And quite impressive being done with a mouse
Good Job~
Both expressions are really well done
I suggest maybe looking up references on exit wounds
The Alien chestburster is probably the best reference for something like this x'D

I have to say, I really like your use of expression on here. The drawing does look a bit pixelated/blurry, but I saw from the other comments that you are using a program where the max size you can make is this one, so you can't really resize things to help smooth out the lines a bit more. For the part where the parasite says, 'Hello again!' if it's possible, maybe you can try to make that part a bit more clearer so it stands out and we can more easily connect it with the parasite.

Overall, good job on the drawing, especially considering you used a mouse. I used to use a mouse a few years ago too, so I remember how difficult drawing with one can be.

The expression on his face is well done, but maybe add more shading/shadows around the parasite.

oh, the dark red is blood, i thought the thing had white and red fur. Maybe a little shine on the blood would help tell people that that's liquid, because i only got it after reading a few comments.
and since i don't know how iscribble works and what limitations the artist has with that thing (i guess like oekaki, but could be wrong) i'll just end here.

Actually it's because these parasites (finks) happen to love him. They're like giant mosquitoes, some people just have the bad luck to attract more of them. (like me lol)

Sorry it took me such a long time to reply.  ^^;  I got REALLY busy with Christmas preparations and other mini projects that I have on the go.  Alright.

The first thing that I want to mention is the shading.
You can tell that on the parasite that there is shading inside the coil.  I like that.  Already you are on the way to giving your picture depth, however, the shading on the guy behind the parasite, although I can tell that it's there, it's very dark, mostly because he is wearing black clothes.  I have had many problems shading black clothes or objects myself.  I found an example and a lighting tutorial but I can't find a tutorial of credible quality relating to just shading black or white objects/clothes.
Exercise 11 - Shading Black and White Objects by ConceptCookie
Getting Started: Lighting and Building Values by ConceptCookie
I would highly recommend any tutorial that concept cookie posts.  Their information is useful and I find it easy to learn from them.  I believe it's a group of artists lending their skills because often in their journals they say "we."
:iconconceptcookie:

The creativity in your parasite is cool and the pose for your guy behind him is interesting.  You are already playing with foreshortening which is something I didn't dabble in for a long time and lack skills in so good for you!  :D

The shading though, (Back to that topic, sorry I jump around. XD)  The hands, there isn't much contrast between the shadow and his skin but on his cardigan there is a lot, then when we go to his shirt, again it jumps down to not much contrast.  Try to make the shading continuous.  Some things will reflect light different than others, but when the materials are similar, (Such as his cloth cardigan and cloth shirt,) They should be reflecting light in a similar fashion as well.

The only other thing that I will point out today, is that your colors seem a bit bland. there are ways of checking your colors to make sure that they work well together.  I would suggest reading some color theory and learning a bit on how to pick interesting colors.
The Color Tutorial - Part 1 by sashas
The Color Tutorial - Part 2 by sashas
(I know that these two tutorials are very long and filled with all sorts of words but power through them cause they will give you a lot of information.)
So yeah, I hope the information I gave you is helpful.  I liked your picture over all as well as the creativity in it.  There is a lot of potential here and I hope you keep on practicing!  :)

I love the grin on that thing. One of my gripes is that this person seems unnaffected by the fact that they have a hole in their sternum. I personally would have drawn them in agony rather than fear or sadness. Its otherwise pretty good

This is definitely an interesting piece! I like the facial expression of the person, it shows disgust and fear.
Is this the full size of the picture? I think yes, because the lines are a bit pixelated. Try to draw on a bigger canvas, it will improve the linequality.
To make the artwork look more 3D, it would be good to increase the contrast too. Draw some darker shadows and brighter highlights.
Also I like the parasite! It's scary but also somehow cute. Well done!
Keep up the good work. :D

Thanks! And the canvas is that size because I draw on a website called iScribble.net. That's as big as it'll get there. :XD: I draw on Photoshop sometimes but only when I know exactly what I'm going to draw and take my time on it but usually I don't know what I'm doing and I just draw on iScribble and chat with people. Also my version of PS is very outdated and a huge pain to use.

It looks good. Took me a minute to figure out the shape of the parasite's head though, i think there could have been stronger shading behind the head to make it stick out more.

Very nice and clean for just working with a mouse :) let us start with a critique, shall we?

I feel like the human is very dark (though it may just be my screen) in comparison to the bright pracite creature. The contrast is nice, but the color scheme is simple, and  feels like not much thought was put into it. The colors don't mesh well. They're all very bright, or very dark. Also, you only shade with black. Try to steer away from this, as it only flattens the piece. Shade with more neutral colors. For the parasite, go for a blue, or maybe a cream. I would lighten the colors of the boy (shade it with dark blues or purples?), and maybe change the background color to something different. I hope I am not coming off as harsh here, because this peice truly has a lot going for it, and I feel with a few simple color tweaks, it could really be something great. the line art, for mouse work is amazing. Your characters, especially that parasite, are really creative as well. I love it's face. Keep up the great work.

Not harsh at all! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I chose that green background to make it more disgusting. =p Unfortunately, color is not something that comes to my mind whenever I actually decide to color something. The boy is Goth, that's why he seems so much darker in comparison to the albino critter here.

I think I know what you're getting at though, instead of using actual black, use dark blues for a black hue, I'm guessing? Sorry, after all these years, I'm still a newbie at coloring. lol

No no, that's quite all right, it takes time to learn how colors work, and what colors work best with each other.

May I suggest this website? I use it all the time for coming up with color schemes. You can customize any number of color schemes your heart desire~
paletton.com/

As for the characters, I totally understand why you might've chosen black. I could tell he was goth by the hair. You can totally still use blacks and neutrals in your work, but I would either limit them or use them with purpose. When used this way, it leans towards the cliche, but if you fixed the colors, then I believe it could look a lot better. ;) This is just my opinion though. I also get the green for the background, and why you'd use it. But it almost read as grass at first. I'd work on making it "ooze" more, as another suggestion. In order to get the gross and disgusting feel across. Otherwise green might automatically read as grass to people.

Anyways, I hope I was of some help.^^;

Hm yeah, ooze is always good. :D If I was using Photoshop for this picture, I'm sure I would have done that with the whole background with the smudge tool, but I was on a website and used some tools called "circles" and "autocircles." It came out as gaseous to me. I think I used the blur tool to make the ooze under the letters. lol All this memory is coming back to me. Thanks for the recommendations.
